A Little About Me
Born in Newark, NJ to Haitian immigrant parents, you could say I've always been into performing. I first started with school recitals at the early age of 8 as a pianist, much to my chagrin but to parent's delight. I had always wanted to be an actor growing up, but I only started taking acting and drama classes my junior year of college, while I was working on completing my B.A. in Communications from Rutgers University (New Brunswick). I instantly fell in love with acting. By the time I had graduated school, I was auditioning and being cast in community theater productions. In the years following I would perform in numerous shows in Central NJ. It was fun, but I hadn't yet gotten serious with acting.
I took a break in 2007 and got back into music again with some friends from school. By 2014, I had joined two successful local NJ bands performing in countless shows in NYC and NJ, festivals such as Warped Tour and SXSW, and had opened for major acts such as Shaggy, Parliament, Neon Trees, Offspring, and more. But the acting bug was always in the back of my mind and what I wanted to do. That year I left music (again) and starting taking acting more seriously with taking classes at various theaters and studios in the NJ/NYC area. I also started expanding into acting on-camera where I landed a few commercials and industrial for Verizon, Visa, Homeland Security and NJ Transit. I've also been the lead in a few short films and web series. In the winter of 2016, I was fortunate to become a part of the new original cast for the 2016 reboot production of McCarter Theater's classic "A Christmas Carol" in Princeton, NJ. It was my first theater show in 10 years. I decided then I wanted to pursue acting as a profession and I became an EMC to start my journey towards Equity. In the start of 2017, I started traveling numerous times a week from NJ to grind in NYC and audition for Broadway and AEA EPAs during the day. I self-submit to SAG projects as well. I've landed a few callbacks for both (yay, bucketlists) which has only made me more determined.
Other cool stuff I've done this last year: voice-over work for a PSA and an indie video game for NYU. I got to perform two days on the Minskoff Theater stage for Broadway's "Easter Bonnet" charity event with the cast of Glenn Close's "Sunset Blvd". I've performed in front of a few casting directors such as Ross Meyerson, Susanne Scheel, Marissa Cucuzza, and Christine Kromer. I completed the core improv curriculum (Level 1-3) for the decorated Magnet Theater in NYC. Using that experience, I co-started a YouTube channel called "YouDirect" with friends and started producing and writing original improvised short films. I got my first set of professional headshots, created a reel, and this website in 2017! I also continued to take classes at NJSDA, Luna Stage, and George Street Playhouse to keep improving as an actor. At the end of 2017, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into two prestigious acting programs dealing with Shakespeare. I auditioned, and was accepted, into the 'Shakespeare Theater of NJ' two month summer intensive tour company 'Next Stage Ensemble'. It was a valuable training program which got me introduced to Shakespeare as an actor for the first time in a full way. I did my first professional understudy assignment for their outdoor production of "Midsummer Night's Dream", while also touring "The Taming of the Shrew" for 20+ performances as "Gremio". The programs also had us taking master classes in Stage Combat, Voice, Text, Movement, Rehearsals, and more six days a week. During that period, I separately auditioned randomly for a 10-month actor residency internship at the renown Alabama Shakespeare Festival, which is the 5th biggest Shakespeare theater in the world. I didn't expect to make it, but out of hundreds of actors, I was 1 of 8 selected to move to AL to tour "Much Ado About Nothing" to various schools in the South. In addition to that, we were given roles and understudy assignments in other mainstage shows and children's play for the theater's 2017/18 season! The amount of training and real life experience working at a professional theater out of state was a gift of a lifetime. I was able to learn so much about myself, my strengths, my shortcomings, and a different way of life in the rural South. It was taxing and transformative. The end of the contract had me coming back north in May of 2018 with my being accepted into the professional Actors Equity Association union! A major major step for actors. Now that I am back in the NYC area, I've been auditioning and shooting shorts as I prepare the next step of this artistic journey.
